Default Anyone actually seen a 512K IMBE/CAI flashed ASTRO Spectra?

I know there's these so-called "firmware rules" out there which state R09.60.02 is the latest 512K firmware and it supports IMBE/CAI operation. But has anyone actually ever seen a 512K ASTRO Spectra, flashed with R09.60.02 and I/N 06.xx.xx DSP firmware before?

After doing some research tonight, it appears the R09.60.02 firmware could not be in a 512K mobile, as it exceeds the 512K capacity of the flash memory. The same goes for R09.51.00 -- a slightly older release.

Forget all the stuff you've read on the boards over the years. Even stuff which I wrote myself. Has anyone physically seen a 512K IMBE/CAI-provisioned ASTRO Spectra VOCON/radio?

I'm not talking about the ASTRO Saber here. Just the ASTRO Spectra.

    I've got one.

I have known the various sources on this have been wrong from the get-go, none of the various "512K Mobile" firmwares out there are under 512k in size if you convert the hex to a binary, I mean WTF?!?!?

The firmware is very rare. I have a very old (15 years!) developmental version D8.00.00 that is the only mobile P25 CAI compliant 512k Astro Spectra that ever was, AFAIK. Note that it has problems with newest R6 DSP, so use the old one (6.04.09) that's packaged with it otherwise it will randomly reset about every 30 secs or so. Sorry, no CVN files, just raw hex dumps. Here 'tis:

There is actually a beast like this in the wild ? I was under the impression that some moto lab tech was using this mythical 512k astro spectra version to justify to his boss why 5hrs of time went missing every friday afternoon. One would assume that the lab tech had just headed off to the pub for some hard "earnt" VB (VB= Victoria Bitter for those that have not seen the aussie beer commercials. It's a terrible beer drunk out of a stubbie by guys wearing footy shorts and singlets bwahahahahahahaha).

I'm pretty sure I have a stack of 512k Spectra Vocons at home, flashed with IMBE. I'll fire one up and see what is says tonight.

    Thanks for the info guys.

But this only serves to add greater confusion.

All these years, we've assumed there was matching mobile/portable firmware, for the 512K vocon, in this format:

R05.60.02 (portable 512K, latest) had a matching mobile version of R09.60.02. But this is not correct! The R09.60.02 firmware is too large to fit onto a 512K vocon. In memory, the firmware extends past 0x0007FFFF (the 512K cutoff) -- all the way to 0x0009FC9D.

The firmware which Alpha has posted above, does in fact stay within the 512K memory range. But the firmware version he has posted is D08.00.08. This is something which I have never seen before. Traditionally, "D" series firmware is developmental or "depot". (No one has ever confirmed this; but safe to assume -- as "R" is "release" firmware).

I opened up the firmware Alpha posted, and partitioned it into the two images which would install to U205 and U210 on the 512K vocon. (Two 256K flash ROMs)

Once code352 is able to post his findings and this thread has a little more discussion, I'll split the posts and move the firmware images into the Firmware Downloads (.bin images) sub-forum.

Thanks guys. Keep the info coming.

This mobile version was packaged with PORTABLE HOST 5.01.01 and corresponding DSP of 6.1.2. I experimented and found that DSP 6.04.09 worked much better, but the latest DSP 6.05.02 was buggy and caused the random 30-second reset problem I mentioned. Yes, it's definitely an early developmental version.

I can get a couple of the 512k IMBE (P25) VHF high power units.. I think we have w3 and w9 versions. I will dig them out and update this post.. I have no idea what FW/DSP is in them, but I did test them and they are p25.. The only reason I remember them is because we had hundreds that were VSELP (440001-000000-x flash) and only a few that were p25.. (540001-000000-x).. I also think I may have just a vocon from one of them here at the house.. I'll check and update asap..
