    Default XTL cable

I’m getting ready to install my new XTL’S and was wondering if either of these cables will work for a remote install. I understand the one cable has an RS-232 connector and the other doesn’t. I have that cable already because it was listed as being for programming the radio. (But thus far I can’t get it connected to the PC.)

So I was looking for a cable for the second radio and found this.

Will the both work for my install?

    Thanks / Rob W1RRL

This is all you need for a remote mount XTL install. Assuming your using an 05 head. And assuming you already have the power cables for the brick.

The second cable you linked in your post would work for a dash mount install. The programming cable could possibly work for a dash mount install if it were modified. But not for a remote mount set up.

The rear connector on the XTL is only present on mid power radios. The radio supports both serial and USB rear programming cables (USB above certain firmware versions). You can program a remote or dash mount XTL from the preferred location using the GCAI programming cable (mic connector) or from the TIB on either W or O series TIBs.
