    Default GE Orion packet connections

Looking at the manual, it appears to want to be connected to Xdatain and Xdataout, for the MDC, but I'm not sure what internal interface, if any, there is, or how PTT is initiated

I have an orion that's been laying around for a few years, and I figured I might as well turn it into an APRS radio, since controllers are dirt cheap.

IIRC shorting pins 14 and 12 will allow it to power on without a control head...and it'd be a single freq. with no ext audio or connections other than for APRS.

So, anyone have any detail on interfacing to external data sources?

    Currently, it'd be an OTM2, https://www.argentdata.com/products/tracker2.html

    I appreciate the input.

Years ago, Chicago Water Board was using Conventional Orion's on 453 MHz for water telemetry. No clue what format they were using. But they were successfully doing it. Don't know the connection scheme either.

But, apparently it worked for over a decade, and might still be their current system.

    Sorry I can't offer more.

We have done EDACS data projects with the RDIs an other ways back to the FMD days. But I have moved since and I have no clue where the manuals an information on the various radios are packed.

As time permits I will do some looking around.
