Default FYI: SL7550, XPR7550 (and other related models) RF adapters

Moto sells RF adapters for alignment purposes, and wants $130+ each for them.

The XPR7550 (non IS, and non-SMA versions) use the MS147 RF jack on the mainboard. This is made by Hirose. Adapters are available on eBay and elsewhere.

The SL7550 also has a board-mounted jack for alignment purposes. It's the MS156. Same deal; search eBay for an adapter or pigtail cable.

I just spent 2 hours IDing these jacks, so I hope this information is useful to others. The jacks/adapters are not identified in the BSM or DSM for these radios.

    Motorola original part numbers:
    PMLN6154 - XPR7550 RF adapter
    28012039001 - SL7550 RF adapter

If aligning the SL7550, and using external power, keep it to about 4.17V. With the battery door open, and the bottom of the radio facing down, ground is pin 1, and VCC is pin 4.

Great stuff Mars! I wonder if there is a similar adaptor or connector that enables you to do away with the megabuck XTS4000 service adaptor..

    Cheers

Just ordered 2 each of each adapter to BNC for my test benches. $11 each (with 2 foot double shield) beats $130 each.

I always wondered the same thing. I would wonder if the one for the SL7550 is the same for the XTS4000 - that would be a start at least.

I have that RF adapter sitting here beside me. I'll see if I can ID the jack when I have some time later today.

FYI, the outer diameter is about 4mm, and the inner is 3mm. Unfortunately I do not have a 4K to test (confirm) the replacement with.

I posted this same question on BB while this board was on hiatus... the connector on the radio is a Hirose MS-147, and the mating adapter to SMA female is MS-147-HRMJ-1.

I was under the impression the DP4000/XPR7000 RF connector was a Hirose MS-147. I got myself a Hirose MS-147-HRMJ-1 adaptor to SMA female which seems to fit and work ok with the radio dismantled, although that particular one is too short to work without removing the housing.

If I am wrong, and the XPR7000 series is the MS147, then I apologize. I am going on measurements and data sheets. This shit is not common at all, and it is easy to make a mistake. I have already ordered the adapters I described above, so I will confirm if they fit once they get here. I will also go ahead and order the MS147 adapter, so I have that as well.

Its unfortunate Motorola does not make this information public. They are not doing themselves or anyone else any favors, by being cryptic about it.

Confirming the MS-156 adapter fits the SL7550 perfectly.

Cool! I have an SL-300, and it looks like it has the same type of jack on the back hidden under a rubber plug. If you have one to try, you might check that as well, but I'd bet it's exactly the same connector, it looks identical.
