    Default MTP8550EX and MTP8500EX FAQ

    Hi,
    I most recently bought a MTP8550EX from oz. It was reasonably priced, didn't really need one as I have multiple Sepuras around but "it happens".
    The topic states FAQ, and as such, I have mostly questons. I really hope you would have even some answers.
    - The charger seems to be the same for DP4800 and compatible (XPR) products.
    - Some say, the accessories should work from Mototrbo-series, is this correct?
    - Programming cable pinout? I asked the same question at another site, stating that the Mototrbo programming cable should work, is this correct?
    - Can these be programmed over BT?

    The sale didn't include a charger. I do not currently own a Mototrbo-charger, and they seem to be reasonably valued (at least genuine IMPRES-chargers). I do however, own a battery reader device with the corresponding cups. Could someone hint me in the right direction partnumber wise, as what charger could be used with the reader-cups for trbo-radios?
    IIRC these are older chargers and much more easily available as 2nd hand equipment

    Received radio yesterday. Clean as a whistle (as new). But it's HUUGE :-)
    A quick test showed it will recognize a Savox C-C550 (MotoTRBO, non ATEX). Nice.
    I don't have a TRBO/APX programming cable, so I tried;
    - Straight USB, no dice
    - Used a MTM5400 front cable, no dice
    - The above, connected the 1wire, no dice.
    If someone happens to have the GPIO-options for this, it would be much appreciated.
    The MTP850 BSM shows how to set the USB/RS for various situations with different GPIO's.

    I'll try to borrow a TRBO/APX-cable to test it.

    The battery fits the TRBO-battery adapter from my battery reader kit. Remove the cover from the Waris IMPRES-charger and some rubber bands -> all good
    If I decide to keep the radio I will have to source a WLPN4114(?) or TRBO -charger.

    Can you post some photos of it?

    Please be more specific, photos of what? :-)

    I tested the PMKN4012A (modified to B). No dice. "Invalid accessory detected" or similar error message appears.

    I retried with HKN6184C (now with the 1-wire connected at the radio end to the cable!).
    Invalid accessory detected.
    1wire and pin1 (gpio_0?) low -> invalid accessory
    pin1 low -> detects as RSM
    1wire connected -> same as straight usb, windows does not recognize it (failed to request device descriptor)

    So, apparently, it needs GPIO_0 pulled down AND the correct 1wire id from the programming cable.
    This is a setback, as the cable will cost about half what I paid for the radio. Bugger.

    This is unless someone is willig to probe the 1wire id from a PMKN4160.. (and this is where it gets off limits for this board, right?)

    OH bollocks. Never mind. A straight USB cable works. Just boot the radio in flash mode.
