    Default XG-100P Encryption Muting

I am using my XG-100P to scan a neighboring county's VHF P25 channels. They are about 50/50 encrypted.

Is there a way to get the Unity to mute the encryption like a Motorola will? On trunked talkgroups, the encryption is muted but the conventional stuff is getting about unbearable to listen to.

    Thanks!

What happens if you assign an arbitrary key to those conventional VHF P25 channels? Shouldn't the XG-100P mute the encrypted audio if it detects a key mismatch?

    Unfortunately that had no effect.

    Figures...

For whatever reason, Harris radios, unlike Motorola, don't mute the encrypted audio on P25 conventional channels if the radio doesn't have the correct key. I guess it's just their way to further discourage monitoring those channels if you're not authorized to have the keys.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.. my P7100 with the latest firmware mutes it but not the Unity, however the Unity mutes it on trunked talkgroups.

None of my P7100 radios have ever muted encrypted audio on P25 conventional channels and they have the last available Flash and DSP that was made available. Do you have keys loaded and assigned to those channels in the P7100?

Have a look at this thread, don't know if it applies but in might:

    Worth a look anyway.

The issue is with receiving P25 conventional channels without a key and the garbled audio not being muted by the radio. I believe in that thread he has authorized keys in the radio,so it wouldn't be an issue.

Can a DES-OFB key be loaded in the XG-100P and it result in the radio muting AES encrypted RX traffic on P25T systems?
