    Default Cloning Trbo Radio

I am using a XPR6550, & XPR4550 on a local ham radio system here in South Florida. Both radios have FW 1.09.00, & program with SW 7.6. I might be looking for a 2nd 4550 for my car, & would want another radio with 1.09.00 FW to be able to easily clone from my 1st 4550. However, should I end up with a radio that has a different FW like 1.08.32, can I still read the 1.09.00 radio, & using the clone function pass the data to the 1.08.32 radio to make them basically the same, or does the FW have to be the same in both radios? Thanks for any help. GARY

The firmware does not need to be the same. You'll get a warning window to the effect that some fields may be set to their default values, but it'll let you continue. Easy enough to upgrade the firmware to match though.

Thanks for the reply. Now should I get a radio with newer FW than 1.09.00 could I still clone the 1.09.00 radio to the newer one? Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans here, & happy Thursday to all the Canadians. GARY

yes you can. the same warning may occure if there is a added feature in the newer firmware. Fortunatly getting the firmware files is easy usually they can be found here or someone here can direct you to the nessessary file.
