    Default SmartConnect

Has anyone heard about this (native P25 trunking over Wi-Fi/IP)?

    Came across this on Google:

Looks to me like the Twisted Pair, Ops Wave, Ops Kodiak, Ops Wave on Cloud solution has grown up from just a MOTOTRBO interface to a full P25 interface.

    Hope it works better

This is Motorola's answer to Harris BeON. The iteration I saw ran on the WAVE core.

Love the bit about "as standard, SmartConnect is purchased as a subscription service, and is charged per radio per year" yeah, good f***ing luck selling that one.

I have a hard enough time with Motorola having "outages" here and there... enough my uppers want a backup system. Yeah... good luck selling us on ANOTHER IP backed system that is vulnerable to a fiber strike.

Both of these features have been added to the Flashcode Tool.

We have discussed this with my agency. it feature could be very useful for us. None of the major casinos in town have BDA's in the basement or stairwells. Some don't have any BDA's at all! Rather than redoing the BDA or adding more antenna's, they would much rather supply us with a dedicated WIFI channel with this upgrade, than revamp the BDA system (millions of dollars). They have no obligation to revamp the BDA (Grandfathered in), but if they knew they could assist via dedicated Wifi, they would be happy to help.

SuperUser's situation is a perfect example of where I can see this concept being useful. But in typical Motorola fashion they look to be making it expensive and forcing you to give up control of your system and data by connecting back to the mother ship.

What's wrong with allowing you to run a server connecting directly to your trunking core all within your own access controlled and firewalled network?

No technical reason. Management wants their recurring revenue.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see anywhere in the posted sales slick where it says a connection back to a Motorola-hosted server is required. In their diagram it looks like the SmartConnect gateway would reside on the CEN/IMW of an Astro25 trunking system.

    It's in the installation guide.

    Page 15:

    SmartConnect Gateway Gateway

The SmartConnect Gateway handles calls from subscribers who register through WiFi, LTE, or
Satellite broadband networks. The gateway, which is hosted in the Microsoft Azure cloud
environment, provides an interface to the subscriber and mimics the Site Controller interface to the
Zone Controller. The SmartConnect Gateway is upgraded periodically and automatically. The
upgrade process does not affect the subscribers connected to the gateway.
    Page 24:

    Isolation Between Tenants

Although the SmartConnect Gateway in the cloud is a multi-tenant architecture shared among multiple
customers in the same region, information specific to each system is managed separately and
    accessible only to approved administrators.

There's a .au federal agency heading in this direction. They're running procurement tenders for LTE/P25 dual mode gear right now.

This particular agency has well established UHF P25 conventional systems in the major cities, but they routinely operate in all sorts of places nationwide (as well in neighbouring Pacific Island nations) that their radio network doesn't reach.

The answer was Wave 5000, but that's gone in favor Wave on Cloud and the WOC gateway.

Not sure if the gateway is ISSI or CSSI based in the P25 world.

I like the idea of multiple points of sub access, but.......
I like to have control of my toys!!!!

How long before the core is forced to the cloud???
Radio Referenced...Those who think they know it all are very annoying to those of use who do.

I demo'ed Harris BeOn in 2017. Harris flew in a BeOn core, donor radios, and put it on my county network. I run an Astro 25 7.16 (back then we were on 7.14). Went to IWCE, with an XL-200p programmed with my system locally and BeOn. Walked around Vegas on my trunked system. There was an ST in an RFIM class I was taking. He asked me what kind of system, he about shit his pants when I told him "M-core 7.14". Saw him on the phone after that quite a bit.
Harris is way ahead of the game with BeOn, and apparently it is INCLUDED on their VIDA core. One only needs to procure the client licenses, or at least that's the way it was pitched to me.
Your streaming makes me AES-256. Keep it up and you'll soon have nothing to listen to.
