    Default ASTRO Saber R batteries?

Search shows that this was discussed in 2014, but a lot changes in 5 years...

Does anyone still make or sell batteries for the 'R' series ASTRO Sabers? This dope ordered a box of 10 such radios because they were really cheap, forgetting that they didn't use standard Saber batteries.

I briefly considered trying to Dremel out a little bit of a traditional battery to make it fit (knowing it wouldn't be remotely as resilient as a proper 'R' battery with an O-ring), but it looks like the contacts don't even line up, so they're a very different beast.

Your best bet is to cut open the Saber R batteries and install some lithium ion cells. On another thread I show my work. You need to modify a pocket charger to properly charge a lithium ion to 8.4 V.

Someone was selling R's on eBay recently. I grabbed one and the battery turned out to be half decent.

Figured I'd be ripping it open to change out the batteries but I'm going to hold off a bit.

I once had an Astro Saber R. But it was much cheaper, & easier to buy a regular Astro Saber case, & swap the guts into it, & use a regular Saber battery. GARY.
