Looks like prices are going up this year.

That's going to scare folks off. What are the actual prices?

Jesus, do they think people are made of money?

General Admission Tickets $26 each, $31 at door. Parking free.

...and the death-spiral formally intensifies. Couldn't help but notice more and more vendors missing from exhibits and flea market each year.

Last year was my first time so I can't compare it to years past, but i wasn't impressed with the vendors that were there. Granted, I wasn't looking for hammie gear but I just expected more.

It was however the biggest hamfest I've ever been to and i was impressed by that alone. Looking forward to 2020!

A few bucks more won't keep me away. It's still the biggest hamfest I can get to every year. I'm just glad I don't have to trip over chunks of asphalt or step in potholes anymore.

I hear there were much worse things to step in than potholes.

Yeah, I remember that. The stench was horrible! There were all kinds of jokes about that.... I can't remember what year that was. Was it the same year we had freezing rain on Friday morning?

Wasn't that the last year at Hara before they switched to Xenia? Hate I missed it. Not.

I can totally see some hammy saying, "$4?!? Well, that just broke the bank, Hank. I won't be making it to the CW Century Club dinner this year. I'm forgoing my whole trip and yearly "vacation" for $4."

Laugh all you want, but it's true. Hams are that cheap. They'll even buy used coax connectors that are still soldered to some patch cable from 1963.

I'll have you know those were from 1973. That 10 year difference is surely worth an extra $.25

I hope to get to Hamvention again this year. The door price increase is a very small factor in my overall cost of $1200 in getting there , but I will still haggle over the cost of a patch lead, its a hammy tradition.

Since I am only able to make it to Hamvention every couple of years I guess I will suck it up and just pay the price increase.
Hopefully the $4.00 price increase will drive the cheapskates away so I won't have to fight for a spot inside one of the buildings when it rains.

Hope to see everyone at Xenia in 2020 - I'm the short, fat, bald guy

Probably because in 1963 PL-259’s were made in the US, & not in China. LOL. GARY

And being made with phenolic, don't melt when you solder them.

But seriously the '259 series, nothing more than a shielded banana plug, is not an acceptable connector above 30 MHz.

Someone needs to tell this to those idiotic ham radio vendors who stock all kinds of garbage VHF and UHF antennas with so-239 connectors.

An overwhelming majority of licensed amateur radio operators are not competent or qualified to be operating communications equipment.

They should denote that the price increase is to cover the new digs with high capacity septic system to be able to ingest all of the hazardous materials deposited by hams and to cover the fees charged by the local water authority to take on the excess turdwater coming into their treatment plants.
Your streaming makes me AES-256. Keep it up and you'll soon have nothing to listen to.

The infamous Dayton turdfest occurred in 2011, IIRC

Taking bets on when Hamvention will be cancelled. I’m sure if you have been to Dayton before your immune to the virus. But today, Ohio has banned all gatherings of over 100 people.

Disappointing but not unexpected, especially considering the average age and medical dispositions of most of the attendees.
