    Default Perplexed by a flashcode

Alright, so.... what the **** is this?

(This is a 100% legit APX4000 VHF Model II)

There is a single 0 on the next page, which makes the flash 5-000000-000000, which isn't decodable in any flashcode decoder I've found.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

The display is limited and cannot display the entire 25 digit (29 with the dashes). What you're looking at is a portion of an APX Extended (or Enhanced) flash code.

5 is probably the checksum (center digit) and the rest are zeros. There is most assuredly one additional zero to the right of what is currently being displayed.

Have a look at the CS APX Encoder. There are a couple of models/features now with bits in the "new" positions.

Is this a radio you have in hand? If it is, stick the Radio Info menu option on the thing so you can display the flashcode in its entirety.

... that would explain it. I didn't even think of there being another page before.

I don't have them on hand right now, but I'll have them on hand Saturday. I'll post back when I have more.

Playing with the encoder, it doesn't take too long to come up with a reasonable flashcode for that radio with a check digit of 5:

Hmmm I really hope they'll have bluetooth enabled, although I could see that not being a thing.

I'm sure they'll have Q806 and Q498 at the very least, because we've got plans for those. GPS too.

Yeah, I was just playing around. Any number of combinations will result in a 5 check digit. I just wanted to demonstrate what you were looking at.

Yeah, I figured. Guess we'll see what the real flashcode is Saturday... thanks for confirming I'm (not?) crazy!

Hmmmmmmm wonder how you guessed that....

    It is indeed that

(Wing DC is sending me pictures of it and must not have realized there was a screen before that one on the flashcode....)

Yep, it's the one that just made it to OHWG. Will be programming it up tomorrow. Anything I should know about the kits?
