Default Converting an APX7000 from a Model 1.5 to 3.5...

Hi all, I was just curious how easy is it, or for that matter hard is it to convert a model 1.5 to a model 3.5 with dual display? Is it the same as you would an XTS5000 such as getting a new housing, keypad, LCD and reflashing the radio? Or is there more to it?

No don't even go there, its a colossal waste of time. The vocon is different, the model 1.5 vocon is missing the hardware to drive the front display. You can check the part # of your vocon but if it is the 1.5 version it can't reliably be converted.

Ahhhh gotcha! I was just curious how easy it was. I really didn't want to do it. I figured it would be a big project considering that just programming these radios is a pain!

It was M's direct answer to the Astro25 model 1 to model 3 upgrades I would say...

IT seems they learned their lesson on the hackmastered XTSs floating around. THere are several hardware changes from model to model as well as older/newer vocons/lcds etc. A simple XTS band change by changing an RF board is even a HUGE pain in the ass with the APX line.

Yeah just programming these things is a task! Certainly not like an XTS.
