Default XTL5000 05 head contrast mod

    Hi all,

I found a thread on here about a modification involving resistors/a potentiometer to an 05 control head to add contrast adjustment.

But the images in the post are dead...

Does anybody have images of this mod or know where I add the resistors for this?

Would appreciate it and will share high resolution photos when I'm done!!!

Why don't you link to the thread in question so I don't have to go searching for it?

I documented the posts in that thread as I had to fix a pile of the heads. The mod is very easy and works like a charm. My thanks to the origional poster.

Here is a link to the document with all the images. I created from the posts.

You know I was about to ask this question. There are people on ebay that do this mod for some money, but Im perfectly capable with a sodding iron so I never want to pay someone.
Its bizzare to me that there is no softpot adjustment for contrast. I can put in a menu option for display color and even allow someone to customize and get a specific color.
    But noooo, cant change contrast.
    Thanks for the document.

The mod for changing the color wouldnt be bad to have. Green is ok but having a choice would be nice. Red wouldnt look too bad.

Anyone have pics of what it looks like when the contrast is all messed up?

This is one of my O5 heads... hard to photograph... it actually appears a bit darker.

Yeah, its a normal feature in the Astro25 software? Here Ive made it match as close as possible the backlighting of my TK5720 and NX800. You can set it in the CPS, or, add a COLOR option to the menu items, and then you can go in and adjust it on the head. Its a good way to 'tune' it to the color you want, then program it in the CPS as a custom color.

I went with the 10K SMD trimpots for the contrast modification. I'm assuming they omitted this because pots get scratchy over time whereas a fixed contrast bias resistor voltage divider is less likely to drift, if ever. But LCDs are so variable in manufacturing tolerance as well as installation positions that one value doesn't always fit all.

You have a part# for that pot handy? I could go find it pretty easy but it might save some time if it was documented here for others as well.

    lots of suppliers.

    Future electronics part # 23BR500LFTR
Digikey part number 3361P-1-103GLF Bourns Inc.

I dont endorse any of the sites listed, they are there for reference only. Also dont forget to specify 10K value.
