Default Motorola GPS II RSM - Accessory Programming Software (RSM)

This appeared on MOL recently. There is no part number associated with it, and I do not believe it's for sale.

http://communications.support/APS.zip ** Please do not download unless you need it. It's 215MB **

Supposedly it's used to update the firmware in the Motorola GPS II Remote Speaker Mic accessory. It comes bundled with Atmel FLIP (FLexible In-circuit Programmer) which flashes related devices.

This is the readme.htm file which is installed with the product:

It's also used to flash the Mission Critical Wireless Earpiece.

I wonder what they charge for that "cable" or "adapter", if you can call it that...

No separate part number appears for the cable, the document states:

"17. Connect the USB cable from the upgrade kit directly to the computer or the hub . Then connect the RSM to the upgrade kit."

I assume from this that the cable/adapter is supplied with the software?

Once installed it shows as USB device "MOTSOL GR2 USB"

    From the FSB:

"Important Notes: A software upgrade programming kit is also required for installation of the software.
The programming kits are ONLY available from the Motorola Solutions, Inc. Product Services team.
To obtain kits needed to update the firmware in the GPS II RSMs, please contact the Motorola Solutions, Inc. System Support
Center (Technical Support Operations team) at 1-800-927-2744 options 3, 3, 3 to request that a technical support case be
opened and escalated to the product services team, referencing FSB10684A. Please provide the part number of the GPS II
RSMs affected and quantities when requesting the case opening."

No indication of whether the kits are supplied free (yeah, right) or if there is some cost involved?

Hmm... I also wonder what the whole upgrade kit costs then...

Was that the cable ID by itself, or with the RSM connected?

It's unclear but I assume there must be a PCB w/chip in the adapter that appears to Windows as a USB device, if it was a direct connection to the RSM wouldn't it show up as a 1-wire device?

DOH! I should have read a little further on:

    "PARTS REQUIRED (HARDWARE/SOFTWARE):
Software Upgrade Programming Kit - loaner units will be provided by Motorola Solutions Inc."

Next question, as Model I housings are a-dime-a-dozen on fleabay, and I doubt you would need a chassis as the housing has the connector already fitted, would it be possible to make our own cable/adapter?

All this bull**** just to reflash a speaker mic?

Someone get me an upgraded mic, and I'll extract the .bin from it, so we can do out-of-circuit upgrades.
