Default Astro Spectra Plus goes deaf !!!

I have a Astro plus doing the non-affliated scan thing. On occasion and for no apparent reason the radio just goes deaf and quits recieving.. It does the same thing on several different talk groups. And then there are other times that it works flawlessly... Has anyone else experinced this issue ?.... Is it possibly some type of external interference ?

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that they system is changing control channels and you are not following the control channel change. Do you have all of the control channels, primary and alternate, programmed into the radio?

It's also possible that the conventional channel to which your scanlist is slaved is receiving a signal that is causing the radio to park on the conventional channel. Make sure that you have enabled an RX PL tone on the conventional channel.

    What squeaky said.

And how long is your system search time (scan configuration) set for? Should be 255.

Also make sure your ignition switch isn't set/active, or configured as anything other than "Do nothing" or "Blank".

When was the radio last aligned? Being off-frequency, even by 1-3 KHz is enough to cause major packet loss.

I second what Mars has said particularly the part about alignment. Almost every similar case we have heard here involves a narrow-band system, combined with the radio being a bit off tune. The radios are particularly sensitive to proper alignment with regards to narrow band systems - they cause exactly the same symptoms if they are off frequency a bit or the wrong system modulation type is selected (C4FM, CPQSK); sometimes they receive fine, sometimes they act like they are deaf for periods of 5-30 minutes or so it would seem.

Has the receiver been checked for sensitivity across the band? There could be a bad frontend RF amp transistor. Common problem.

Is it also possible you are listening to a SmartZone or ASTRO25 system, on a site that doesn't always have equipment affiliated with those talkgroups on it? The site won't broadcast talkgroups that nobody is affiliated with.
