    Default XTL1500 vs XTL5000 vs XTL2500

Is an XTL1500 a "cut down" version of the XTL5000 ie. identical body hardware but reduced firmware features and basic head?

Is an XTL2500 a completed different radio to an XTS5000 with a different body and different heads?

Does the XTL1500 and XTL2500 have the RF Pre-amp flashport option like the XTL5000 ie. without the RF Pre-amp installed in firmware you are getting a radio which will be deafer than an MCS2000?

Can't answer your pre-amp question, but they are all three the same chassis with different heads.

Supposedly, W12 - Preamp is only available as a flashcode option on XTL5000, HPD1000 and XTL2500 radios, not for XTL1500 or PM1500 radios.

I suspect that is a firmware issue and done deliberately because Mother wanted people to purchase high and second tier radios and not just option the hell out of the poverty-packs?

The only diff between all three is the firmware, control heads & flash code/ options available between 1500 2500 & 5000
Motorola makes it clear that up grading is available for xtl's.
Hope that is what you are wanting to know.

    Thanks for the info.

I need to start researching flashcode and firmware updates. Are there any useful threads/links?

the xtl2500 is an all around more resourceful radio, has more functions then the 1500 yet not so complex as the 5000, if you ever want to do a dual head just get a remote mount kit and a spare head for the 2500 and your set
