Default EFJ 5100 heating issue: Fixed!

Someone has mentioned this problem before. I had a radio with the same symptoms: it would get very warm to the touch while sitting with the squelch muted after only a few minutes, mostly on the back side of the radio.

I replaced the RF deck and it appears to have ameliorated the issue. Just wanted to post this for others who have the problem.

Thank you for sharing that fix for your heating problem. Sounds like the RFPA on that board is bonkered, it's probably drawing lots of current too. I did notice all of the ones I have seem to run fairly warm when idling, but not really hot enough to indicate a real serious problem with them. Also the warmth seems to be located toward the front and low on the radio (i.e. not the RF deck like yours, unfortunately), so I am assuming that's normal for them since all 4 of mine are doing it.

I have a UHF which is warm. Battery life appears normal...

    That makes me somewhat angry.
