I noticed that while having the programming cable plugged in the recieve audio level was louder and more consistent on subsequent transmission... Has anyone else noticed this and if so why ?

When you have the programming cable plugged in (at least on mine) the control head goes dead. I did notice, I think, that the radio does still operate while in this "stupid" state. With the control head held in reset or whatever, it might be changing the loading on the audio lines somehow - perhaps related to the audio routing it would do in relation to a front/rear control head where the audio can be switched or routed. Maybe? If the head is held in reset like mine then all bets are off as to what it might be doing to the audio busses...

An interesting find, I think that the digital volume control value is rounded off when the processor goes into "programming mode". But as Pezking says its a non issue as far as normal use of the radio is concerned.
