    bang XTS3000 Programming Feedback

So I'm a n00b with Moto gear and was wondering if yall could give me some feedback on my radio and its current programming. I know I want to add a few things to the flash code, however trying to convince my local moto shop is becoming a pain in the backside. I think I will have to send it to an out of state shop since my local shop seems to be hung up on its a public safety only feature.

    Code Plug: 000A
    Firmware: 7.23.00.00
    DSP: N08.03.02
    System Package: H35
    Flash Code: 550001-000000-3
    External Codeplug Size: 2039

I'm sure that my firmware is probably out of date, but I can't seem to locate any new firmware, or documentation on how to update it. I have CPS ver 5.03.00 but if what I've read is correct, I cant update the firmware with this software, or with the cable I have (which is a standard programming cable). Would the local moto shop be able to upgrade the firmware, further, if they upgrade the firmware would my CPS still function?

Thanks for being tolerant of this new moto person.

    Not supported in the XTS3000. You'll need a XTS5000, XTS2500, XTS4000 or APX-series for that.

Yep. Only supported in the radios I mentioned. The legacy-series ASTRO radios (XTS3000, ASTRO Saber/Spectra) do NOT support those newer, slicker features. No support in the firmware for them.

Well crap. So pretty much what my radio has is all I'm going to be able to get/have? :-/

The most you could do is 599008-041E00-2, which is respectable.

Well that flashcode doesn't appear to offer me anything I would need (no offense, not trying to be rude at all). What about my firmware?

If you upgrade to R07.71.07, you gain rebanding support (if it's a 800 MHz radio) and some IMPRES bug fixes. That's about it.

Another option is to completely reflash your radio for ASTRO25 Trunking (9600) operation. That involves a new flashcode and a new major revision of host firmware. (R06.72.00 is a separate platform; a lower major revision means nothing in terms of age). When flashed for 9600, you lose many other features. 548008-000480-9 is as good as it gets.

You need a different radio if you want FPP. No other way. No hacks. No work-arounds.

Thank you Mars for all of your help. It's not an 800mhz radio, its UHF. However an XTS5k is going to likely be my next purchase later this year. Thank you all again for answering my n00b questions.

No problem. And I just want to clarify, for archival purposes (people reading this in the future): ASTRO25 firmware R06.72.00 can only be applied to a 800 MHz XTS3K or ASTRO Saber. No VHF or UHF support with the 9600 option.

When you get your 5K, send me a PM if you need a firmware update.
