    Default XTS5000R upgrade question

I have a VHF XTS5000R no display/key with just a basic conventional flash.

Can this radio be upgraded to a model II with P25? Or even add P25?

    G'day Will,

If you contact a reputable Motorola dealer (like Jeff at Sandy's Communications) you can purchase the necessary parts and an iButton to upgrade the radio yourself, but make sure you're sitting down when you find out the price!

The problem here is that you will end up with an upgraded Model I that's worth very little and owes you very much, you would probably find it cheaper to sell your Model I and buy a second-hand Model II or III, just my opinion of course, it's your money?

I priced it for an XTL2500 the other day on a radio I wanted to buy, it was right around $600 for the necessary flash. There were two as I recall, one to add P25 and another to underlay something else according to the book. Ack!!

I am not going to spend that much on a VHF radio. But may trade for a nice MTS2000 MII in S split.
