Just a few notes. The housing assembly comes with the medallion already, no need to order it. The control top bezel seems to be not orderable, at least from my account. The minimum order quantity for the knobs is 5 each. Otherwise, have fun!

Wonder if my broke ass could order one part by part and eventually put it all together someday? Meh... probably be discontinued or the parts would be incompatible by the time I got to the end.

Just so you know, you changed the part number for the top bezel... don't want anyone ordering an unneeded part.

The proper brown (non-orderable) part number is 1371891H03, you listed the APX7000 top bezel which is black, part number 1371891H02, as per the SRX2200 BSM and APX7000 BSM.

Anybody know why the top bezel is "unorderable" as per the last posting?

It was not released from the factory. Not sure why.

Technically it is orderable... but you have to order the full chassis assembly.

    Holy wow!

What's included in that 'kit' for that price?!?!? The whole internals come with too?

Yes, it includes the lcd and the rest of the top chassis. The lcd in the srx 2200 is dimmable for night vision and I'm not sure it would work with the standard APX 6000. You can however swap the plastic bezel.

I have just got a NHN7064A in for a customer, so better late than never here are some photos confirming what comes with the kit.

The only slight disappoinment is that it arrived in a pretty ratty looking anti-static bag that frankly looked secondhand and doesn't even have a part number label. I get a similar thing with the KT000006A01 APX8000 chassis, they've so far arrived in unmarked foam bags. I'm guessing that reflects them getting pulled out of factory stock, but that's only a guess. It is a bit of an unprofessional way to present an expensive(ish) part though and very unlike Motorola, although I'm gradually learning that their amount of packaging is inversely proportional to cost.

As an added bonus for all you obsessive APX fans, here is a compare and contrast between three different chassis', namely NHN7015B APX6000, NHN7064A SRX2200 and KT000006A01 APX8000

I retook the second picture as the connector on the 6000 chassis near the MP stamp appeared to be missing, which it isn't. Unfortunately I'm too late to edit the previous post

To this untrained eye, they appear to be extremely similar. Do you notice any incompatibility between them?

To my equally untrained eye the APX6000 and SRX2200 chassis look identical apart from the colour of the top bezel. As batbox360 has observed earlier in the thread the LCD display in the control top may be different though, but I've no way of telling.

The APX8000 chassis has rather different mouldings on the keypad side as well as that big orange rubber lump, so is probably not interchangable I'd guess.

I just thought I'd let those who hadn't noticed that the 1371891H03 Coyote Brown control top bezel is now an orderable part. I've attached some pics from my first delivery.

This pic should have been in the earlier post, I don't know what happened to it.

That big orange rubber lump is just there to hold the negative battery contact assy in position during shipment. However, as K.P. points out, the APX8000 chassis casting is completely different because the 8000 is a multi-band radio, while the 6000 and SRX2200 are single band. Note the difference in the casting webs and heat transfer pad locations. Be careful if swapping things around.

Here comes the flood of knockoff SRX2200s! The part, btw, is $22.50 Canadian.

I have ordered the parts needed to make my own knockoff SRX2200, couldn’t resist.

Is there a special tool I need to remove the original control top bezel and replace it with the new one?

Don't forget the Coyote brown battery to match, otherwise you will have an obvious wacker job. NNTN8182 3100 mAH non-Impress; PMNN4486 3400 mAH Impress 2. Even larger capacities are also available. The PMNN4487 and 4494 are both 5" long though.

The only really special tool is to fish the concentric switch lever out of position and place it back during reassembly. Old dental picks and tweezers also work. For the large spanner nuts on the vol control and antenna I went to Harbor Freight and got a couple of needle nose pliers, one straight and one right angle for more leverage, and CAREFULLY ground down the tips to the appropriate size. Also works on Icom antenna nuts as well as other makes.
