Default Motorola sells Vertex now? Did I miss a merger announcement or something?

Couldn't help but notice the VX-5500 is listed in the April 2013 Motorola Professional Price Book. What's up with that? Are they in some sort of strategic partnership now?

    Not quite

M bought Vertex-Standard..... and dumped the Marine/Aeronautical/Ham divisions and kept just the LMR Division ...the leftovers formed a new independent from Motorola company called Yaesu USA.... the Vertex-Standard name and LMR division is 100% Motorola controlled.... all one big happy family now as the Motorola guys told me at IWCE

Does this look strangely familiar to anyone?

A lot of the folks I used to talk to at MOL are now answering the phones at Vertex. Funny that the music on hold is the SAME..... How come your home page doesn't have as many tabs across the top as mine does??

OK - news flash, gang. Yaesu/Vertex/Standard is NO LONGER OWNED BY MOTOROLA! I heard this from a very reliable Motorola associate (former employee with contacts inside). Further searching (wikipedia.com) yields this tidbit:

Vertex Standard Co., Ltd. (株式会社バーテックススタンダード Kabushiki-gaisha Bātekkusu Sutandādo?) in 2000. In 2007 Motorola announced its intention to purchase 80% of Vertex Standard and form a joint venture with Tokogiken, which would hold the other 20%. This deal was completed in January 2008.[1] The joint venture was dissolved effective January 1, 2012. The Vertex Standard land mobile division operates as a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.[2] The Amateur Radio, Airband and Marine Radio business was transferred to the new company "Yaesu Musen".

So no more Yasurola, or Moto-yu, or whatever jokes

At IWCE this year all of the vertex shipping containers had Motorola plastered all over them. I guess someone didn't get the memo.

I'm sure there is most likely some fallout from the merger, it did last 4 years, so they probably have a lot of Moto branded boxes and other stuff they weren't going to throw away and have reprinted... I would assume that some of the personnel got transferred, and it will take a year or two for them to run out of old boxes, people, etc.
