Default XTS Trunked Scanner specs? Help?

I am looking at getting into the Motorola line for both a trunked scanner and conventional radio rather than buying 2 separate radios
I am totally new to this but willing to learn, however i dont know what radio specs i want for the purpose i just stated.
I have found the one below and I am looking for feedback if this would be good for my purposes.
My understanding is that the XTS 3000 is preferred over the 5000 as it doesnt have to affiliate to function as a trunked scanner.
    thanks

It would be hard for that radio which only has Conventional Operation in its flash to act as a trunked scanner.

You'll need Smartzone or Smartnet Operation.

In addition, it's a VHF radio, so if you're trying to follow a trunked system on VHF, then it'd work, kinda. Very few systems are vhf trunked (OBT), and those that are, are mostly fed gov't (here in the USA)

Who are you trying to monitor?

All depends on where he is.

I have no 800mHz systems within monitoring range near me.

However, I do have 2 VHF Smartnet, 1 UHF Privacy Plus, 1 9k6 UHF and 1 VHF 9k6 system.
