Default Astro Spectra W3 Dual Radio?

Did Astro Spectra W3 support a dual-radio option?

Does anyone have this manual?: 6881091C78

No it did not, not to my knowledge. The dual radio astro spectra setup used by the feds actually used an A3 control head.

There is a W3 setup that was for a fed "dual-drawer" configuration. The A3 version was the original one that was dual X9000's and later became a mix of 1 X9000 and 1 Spectra, and eventually 2 Spectras. Later, they came out with a Spectra-Only version using the W3 HHCH. They all use a dual-drawer junction box that looks like the external hardened securenet housing but has more connectors on it, 2 DB-25's to the radios, and one for the HHCH, plus some smaller DB connectors for siren/PA setup and switch boxes, etc. There is also a similar setup for the XTL5000's too.

There was also a dual-head setup with 2 W5/W7 heads on a single radio, that's that 91C78 manual is all about, Slimbob, and it's your lucky day! I found a copy in my files, plus some documentation on the actual setup you WANT which is the dual-drawer setup.

    Here they are:

I had a dual drawer fed version of the astro spectra setup. It used an A3 head. I have the manual for in too.

IIRC, you could dual radio an AS with a W3, but, again, IIRC, one radio was RX only......

It's been a LONG time, but I remember a setup using VHF and 800 on one W3 head with 800 side being RX only, as in, could NOT transmit, not even for affiliation.

A few people up this way use a W3 on 800MHz configured as a "Hot Red Radio". It wouldn't allow transmit at all - IIRC, it was used as a guard receiver for a standby talkgroup/channel.

I am surprised and amazed that "the customer" kept the old heads as long as they did, and that the W3 HHCH didn't come in a dual-radio variety right off. Thanks for the information, as always, gentlemen.

I am trying to put together a dual drawer w3 Astro spectra. One VHF the other UHF. Can any one tell me what parts I may need to get this done. Also the manual would be great. Thanks Al.

Have you tried using our search feature? I typed "ASTRO Spectra Manual" and found what you need.

I was also thinking of making a dual radio configuration with a single W3 head. I have found the manual but I got a little bit confused if this thing can be built together to work properly.

    Hi guys,

I was browsing the net and found this: YKN4265A cable for HRR setup, using 2 Astro Spectra radios.

Unfortunately I have found no information on the control heads that can be used with this setup. Any info? It would be fun to use a W9 head with a primary radio on VHF or UHF and a hot red receiver on 800.

    Any advise is welcome!

The supported control heads in the HRR configuration are the W5,W7 and W9. W3 and W4 are NOT supported.

Any modifications needed on the command board or on other boards?
