    Default Motorola Rib Box

    I have a what I call a real live Motorola Rib Box from factory. At the moment it is dead and not working, I might had spiked it or something like that. Is there anyone out there that repairs them? It will not pass data I get a Failure 07 on the computer screen. HELP!!!

    There is a good schematic on Batlabs, and I think there might be one here, also. Just shotgun all the buffer transistors on the output side, is usually what I do. I think all together they don't cost more than $10.

    And if it's none of the transistors or diodes, it's the Maxim 5V -> 9V DC/DC converter IC. There are two IC's, one op-amp and the other is the Dallas/Maxim IC.

    Yeah, these are super simple. Its usually the first active component in the I/O line from the radio. Particularly if the OP has been programming Syntors or Spectras.

    First check: the four zener diodes on the Buss+ and Buss- lines. Replace with ONE 12 volt 1 watt zener diode on each line. Band end to the Buss line.

    One cannot power an X9000 with a RIB box, it fails every time..... I had to write a procedure for the installers when they were upgrading radios in the bay because they inevitably failed to power things down before removing the RIB cables.
