So there you have it. There is also a server & PC application available for administering these things (OMC server & ACP client), but it isn't a requirement. I don't see that selling very well... Whats the point? I suppose, if you have a gazillion of these things out there, but who does?

At this point there is no TRC option for these things, it's strictly digital control. TRC is supposed to be available Q1 2013.

    From eCAT:

    "MCD 5000 DESKSET SYSTEM OVERVIEW:
The MCD 5000 Deskset System is the Motorola Solution's next generation radio dispatch deskset platform that will interface to legacy Motorola radios, including the XTL5000 W9 Consolette and is planned to function with the APX 7500 Consolette in Release 2.0 of the MCD 5000 Deskset System (available in Q1 2013). The design of the MCD 5000 Deskset is a complete refresh of the deskset platform and uses VoIP technology.

The MCD 5000 Deskset System is directed at the low tier radio dispatch deskset market for customers (Federal, State & Local, Commercial) that utilize radio dispatch desksets to interface to Motorola Consolettes either controlling conventional radio channels directly from the deskset or support a wireless console interface on trunking radio systems. In addition, the MCD 5000 Deskset System is targeted at those customers that utilize radio dispatch desksets that have a direct connection to 2 or 4 wire TRC devices (stations, DIUs, Tone Remote Adapters). TRC is not supported in the initial release of the MCD 5000 Deskset System (R1.0) but is planned to be supported in R2.0 (available in Q1 2013).

The MCD 5000 Deskset System solution uses a new or existing IP network allowing remote control of a 2-way radio located elsewhere on the network. Each MCD 5000 Deskset user can dynamically select a radio to control and have a range of capability from simple talk/listen thru complete radio feature access. The 2-way radio connects to the IP network thru a MCD 5000 Radio Gateway Unit (RGU) that allows from 1 to 4 radios to be connected to a single MCD 5000 RGU.

Using IP to connect the MCD 5000 Deskset to the MCD 5000 RGU / 2-way radio is very appealing to customers as it saves time and money, with the added benefit of flexibility. Time and money are saved since, in most cases, existing IP infrastructure is already in place at the customer location saving time and money for install. In addition, money is saved by the customer as the reoccurring cost of leased phone lines is eliminated. Flexibility is added by the fact that the MCD 5000 Deskset can be moved at any time from location to another where the IP network connection exists.

The MCD 5000 Deskset provides the operator/user with several analog audio accessories (handset, headset, desk microphone, footswitch) to choose from to get the desired audio into the deskset. The voice received by the MCD 5000 Deskset is converted to VoIP (Voice over IP) packet data and sent over the IP network to the selected MCD 5000 RGU. The MCD 5000 Deskset also provides virtual control head capability for display and button presses.

The following radios can be controlled via the MCD 5000 Deskset:

    • ASTRO Consolette (W9): ASTRO Spectra, ASTRO Spectra Plus, XTL 5000
    • CDM Series Radios: CDM 1550, CDM 1550 LS, CDM 1550 LS+
    • MCS 2000 Model III Control Station

To aid current customers with deployed MC3000 or RCH3000 desksets, the MCD 5000 Deskset system can be deployed in parallel with existing MC3000 or RCH 3000 desksets. This allows customers to implement the new IP architecture of the MCD 5000 Deskset system, while maintaining parallel operation to their existing install base of MC3000 or RCH 3000 desksets."

    So there ya go.
