APX CPS programming questions

Hi there!
I'm slowly migrating from Astro25 series radios to APX ones. I'm currently running APX CPS R12.00.00 and though I'm no newbie to radio programming, I still have some unsolved problems with it:

1. With the Astro25 CPS it was possible to switch between import options: "Append" or "Overwrite". In APX CPS I can't find this selection. The software would do "Append" on default, which, in my case, causes plenty of errors (in scan lists' especially) which I have to work out by hand. How do I make the software ovewrite when importing?

2. I have an APX7000 VHF+UHF which has almost all the channels I need and much more. Now I also have an APX2000 VHF and am awaiting APX4000 UHF. Allright, I can export all my data from APX7000 to APX4000 or 2000, but how do I get rid of the freuency data which is "wrong" for mono-band radios? To make it simplier, how do I export VHF (or UHF) channels and personalities only? Is it possible?

3. APX7000 has time display and set button and displays clock on default. However APX4000 only has time set button, I can't get it to display clock on the screen. Is it even possible?

4. In Astro25 CPS it was possible to Drag and Drop zones and personalities from one codeplug to another. One just opened 2 windows with both codeplugs and off one goes. However it doesn't work for APX CPS. It is impossible to open 2 codeplugs in the same APX CPS window (unlike MotoTRBO CPS) and dragging and dropping from 2 diferent windows won't help either. Nor could I manage to copy and paste items from one codeplug to another. Copying and pasting only works for the same codeplug in my case.

5. My APX2000 seems to behave strangely. I have a zone of Mixed-Mode Analog TX channels which I scan most of the time. When I turn the scanning off, the radio flashes the red light briefly for 3-4 seconds and then come up with REG FAILED on the screen. When the red led flashes, I can hear short digital bursts on the control analog-only radio. The radio has NO trunking systems at all, why would it want to register somewhere?

Thanks to everybody in advance!
Alex

Check under Radio Wide, General that Time Format isn't set to Disabled.

Open two instances of the application. Load one codeplug in one and one in the other. Drag and drop will then work.

Thank you!
Time format is not "Disabled". I can view and edit time and date but only if Ipress the specific menu button.
I can't see the clock on the home screen though

Yes, I've found it in the tutorial about dragging and dropping. Can it be that my PC is too slow and won't perform this operation?

Don't know further on the time issue, we've not dealt with very many 4000s.

The APX software is very bloated. My work computer is a 2.5 GHz Core i5 with 4 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit (wish it was 64-bit but no one asked me) and it is SLOW running two instances of APX CPS.

You can not show the time on the display of the 4k, as far as I could tell and the only place I can see the time is under the clock page (where you set the clock).

Seems pretty useless then to even have the ability to set the clock (like in the APX7500 - no clock set dialog at all), but in the small display, I don't think they can fit it in on the 4k.

You set the clock so the Recent Calls list has a time to refer to, not just so you can ditch your watch :)

Sounds like you have DVRS enabled. Uncheck/disable it for that personality.

Short explanation: when DVRS is enabled the radio treats the DVRS repeater on the mobile radio like an extension of a trunking system.

Not the exact cause, but that was close enough. Thank you for giving me the hint, I was finally able to hunt the problem down.

Turned out it was a checkbox CAI Data Registration

from the softwae Help:
Enables the radio to register on the data portion of the FNE infrastructure (Fixed Network Equipment); the FNE is also referred to as "The System". The data portion of the system then sends a CAI (Common Air Interface) Data Registration response or acknowledgement confirming the registration back to the radio. The radio events that trigger this registration include: radio power up, mode change, exiting scan, and radio power down.

Unckecked this box and the radio finally stopped spitting out digital data bursts!
