What has that got to do with it? We all understand the need for tuning but I fail to see the relevance here.

This sentence:

Still, in either case, the wise man sayeth bench your second-market radio before placing into public safety use.

Even if placing into service for your personal enjoyment, a P25 radio not properly aligned may not receive P25 signals correctly -or at all-, and a lot of that can be caused by some of the tiniest tuning parameters.

com501 - on the ASTRO25 and APX series, the receiver section of the tuner software only has 2 things to tune.. How critical are they?

Not critical. The TX alignments for the audio balance which can be done with any good analog service monitor, are super critical for correct decode/encode of P25. Although tedious, if not done, the radio just one work right, especially near band edges (think 2 meters for VHF) and is a major irritant for folks trying to monitor trunking, where (especially at 800/900) is it very crucial.

Best very friend, autotune software.....

Thanks com - I align my gear fully anyway but was never sure if the Tx Alignment screen had any affect on the Rx performance. I did wonder why the master freq ref came under the Tx Alignment...

The REF oscillator should ALWAYS be set first, and you should try to get it as close to -0- on frequency as possible. Sometimes just doing that fixes a radio with no RX on a trunk system in P25.

Probably the same reason the CPS has pretty (useless) themes and no way to 'fill down' or 'fill up'. Written by a teenager and translated from Hindi!!

6. Looking at the installation manual, it appears the mic hanger has to be earthed. PLEASE tell me they didn't go to that stupid setup. I've been enjoying the mics shorting themselves on the hangers for what I have now."

And yes, you do have to ground the mic hanger or click the "HUB defeats..." in CPS. I agree, should have been self grounding...

Funny thing, got a call from dealer 2 (the dealer who actually got me a quote at least) this avo for my APX. They are not impressed Moto put the blame on them for the muck ups. So yay I'm stuck in the middle of a blame game. Nice professionalism from two large companies, especially when both a speilling the bs directly to me.

TBH Moto's story (well the rep from Moto to be fair) sounded more fabricated and less "he/she said WHAT" response than the dealer gave.

It's days of our bloody drearies and all I want is me radio. I told them this avo if the pi@@ing contest continues I will look to a stateside dealer for barebones and hack the rest in like it or lump it. So dissapointed.....

A thought that just came to mind, has anyone had any experience(s) putting APX gear in UHF1 onto 477mhz?

I know the XTL was a hit and miss and there was talk of being able to shave the tx2 vco resonator to lift the 474 cap to 478. Is there similar issues and fixes with the APX6500/7500?

Also will the APX6000/7000 hack over to 477mhz just fine like the XTS?

I'm not counting on many having experience with the APX yet over here given their ridiculous price tag but I'm hoping someone has had some exposure. Given the rubbish going on with Moto now I'm actually beginning to contemplate a pair of APX6000 or XTS5000 handhelds and vehicle adapters into 25-50w linears/boosters (K and R+477) for the car instead (less chance of pinching the radio if it's on my belt).

This is why companies shouldn't stuff the customer around IMO, they get cold feet and look for other options and possibilities to replace the broken equipment and a sale or more is lost from it.

The APX firmware wont allow you to take the radio out of band like the XTS/XTL series. If you allow invalid frequencies in the codeplug, the radio will throw an error at you. You will need custom firmware to allow it.

Bloody yanks and their 380-400 grrr.. before that opened up we had 477 great from a low band :( :p

I just hate having to have a separate radio just for 477, makes a mess of the car.
