Well, let's see.....

4000's - one knob.
4000's - two knobs.
6000's - no MVA.
6000's - MVA - but buy a new radio....

no MVA for 7000's or for 8000's....

Do you sense a pattern here? What 'ya bet there's a new MVA next year for the 7000 or 8000 that requires 'some new hardware chunk' to be compatible?

The reason that sheet doesn't specifically list the 8000 is because that radio has not yet been released to production. The APXVA will work with the 8000, and all bands are routed to the new design side RF connector which has been enhanced specifically for this accessory. The 7000 is another story. The factory says no chance of that happening.

I'm assuming that's what the "primary" and "secondary" band status indicates with the APX7000, then? I haven't been able to discern any other thing that pri vs. sec seems to infer or affect otherwise.

Yes, only one RF section in a 7000 is routed to the side connector. This is also why PSMs only work for one band on those radios.

You will not have to buy a new APX6000 to work in the VA. It can be sent to the DEPOT for the upgrade. Unknown on cost at this time.

I see they're still sticking to their guns on no O3 capability. That has to be a deal-breaker for the Fed customers that wanted this thing (assuming they don't have a Secret Squirrel version like the Astro Saber AVA.)

Works great, I am using it with UHF APX6000 and its nice to have the additional audio with the external speaker. I also have a TPL amplifier and with the external antenna its equivalent to having a APX6500 and a portable at the same time.

That is an excellent find. We have been considering some additional portables and the availability of the APX Vehicular Adapter is just one more reason to select the APX6000 over other radios!

Ripped... moto assured me the 8000 would be APVA capable and compatible with the 6000 adapter. I was thinking what an epic unit they would be with a vehicle adapter and after burner(s) to appropriate power levels for each band (dual band V/U in my case would do).

sooooo... Don't want to drag this up, but it seemed to have the most discussion.

Is this compatible or not with an 8000? I'm not worried about amplifiers, I'm perfectly content with running this to a multiband antenna on the roof. It looks like on the spec sheet the only difference is that if you specify a VHF kit vs 700mhz kit, the only part difference is that they send you the correct antenna. No part number difference on the VA itself based on band, only he kit.

I ask because my Moto dude says no, but he has been wrong plenty of times in the past. Coupled with the logic I mentioned above, we would be safe so long as an amp isn't used.

From what I understand, it's compatible only with the 6000 which has an updated side connector (i.e. newer 6000's and those sent in for the upgrade). Still only one RF band. If there's support for the 8000 and multi-band RF, I'd sure like to see some proof of that as well.
