I saw that on MOL earlier in the week. Cool idea, but it looks huge and heavy. I'm not a cop, but I'm not sure I'd want that thing hanging off my shirt. Tac-vest is one thing, but uniform shirt?

What I'm interested to see, is with public safety LTE rolling out and it being built into the APX, when will it be an option to stream live video back to the dispatcher (and/or a sergeant/battalion chief) when the emergency button is jabbed. The LTE backhaul could easily handle it...

Before they get to that point they'll have to figure out how to have 700 MHz LMR and Band 14 LTE operate in the radio at the same time.

This company is like a parody of itself at this point. I wish the .gov just go ahead and officially nationalize them already. Let them build for the Fed's unlimited budget and clean the market for normal budgets.

Android powered

So presumably you either have to deal with officers watching porn on the department camera, or you have to purchase a $2700 Flashport option to enable parental controls?

I wonder if it suffers from lost footage issue when something dose not pan out on the police favor!

The local cops are walking around town here with cameras which look to be 1/2 the size of this unit. They seem to work and state has purchase a truck load more of them.

The one by Taser is one of the more popular units from what I have heard, your local guys might be using one of them. Plus, Taser already has a cozy relationship with many existing LE orgs, I'm sure...

In Chicago the police will actually go into local businesses and delete surveillance footage if it captures them doing something that makes them look bad.

I would like to see evidence that supports that statement.

Going a little off topic in here, IMO.

Yeah that's enough. And BTW the manufacturer of that DVR states that they forensically tested the DVR and found no evidence of video being deleted.

I believe that it is statements like this that have our cops on the defensive when they shouldn't be.

Size and weight is a valid concern, the current units which have been deployed easily fit into the vests and are directly point out the front of the officer.

One other work mate pointed out the issue of excessive movement in the camera particularly when the the camera is used as a mic and the user leans down to move it closer to there head.

The other headache/issue for the it people is also the massive size of the data sets produced by the number of camera's in the field and if it is practical to use over lte networks.
