So I received a new APX6000 XE last week and wouldn't you know that I was so careless unpacking it that I managed to put two deep gouges into the front display and side plastic of the radio. Now I noticed on my MOL that I am able to order the piece of glass (or plastic) that I actually scratched, but my problem is switching them out. Im not really concerned about the plastic next to the screen.

Although it is very unlikely that this radio will ever see the outside of my office, I want to get what I paid for and retain the Factory Mutual rating and submergibility that comes with a factory sealed radio. That being said does anyone know of a radio shop that would offer this service (maybe a member here) so I could save a few bucks from doing a flat rate repair.

Thanks!

Geez... in the future, you don't need to get the hydraulic tools out to unbox these things! That screen is tough - how'd you manage to scratch it so badly?

There are not many radio shops that can do FM work... if it's a brand new radio from the factory, I'd send it back to the factory. You might even call them, explain what happened, and perhaps they might feel bad for you and help you out. If it's not a brand new radio from the factory (basically, if you can't formally account for the radio's lineage all the way back to manufacture), the FM rating is effectively void anyway.

As you stated, if the radio isn't likely to ever see the outside of your office, I would think the lack of FM rating isn't that big of a deal....that is, unless your office is in the middle of a hazardous gas plant!

Contact the depot and ask them if they can help. And don't open boxes with a chainsaw, next time!

I swear, 25 percent of serious cosmetic damage to ANYTHING is caused by just being careless and in a hurry. That number jumps to 99 percent or more when talking about vehicle damage.
