We'll call the subjects in question Radio A and Radio B.
Radio A is a APX7000 3.5 UHF R1/7/800 running firmware R14.00.03.
Radio B is a APX7000XE 3.5 UHF R1/7/800 running firmware R12.05.00 or possibly R13.00.00 but leaning towards the former.
Both radios have identical radio profile settings and identical values in the internal/external/global noise reduction fields (the long hex numbers.) Radio A's noise reduction values were copied from a master template that Radio B was based on, after a flash/firmware upgrade.
Neither radio is using any external audio accessory.
I was just listening to an extended QSO between the subject radios over Phase II AES encrypted. Radio B, the XE model, sounded crystal-clear, as good as you can get a P25 radio to sound. Radio A, the non-XE radio, sounded terrible... very muddy and muffled. So my questions are:
a.) am I the only one noticing a significant drop in transmit audio quality with R14 firmware when all other factors are equal, and
b.) could someone kindly post the internal/external/global noise reduction values from a non-XE APX7000? I think the non-XE radio may not be performing optimally with values pulled from a XE radio.
