I have an Astro Spectra Plus that when I turn it on it shows MODE 0. Will not change channels. I have tried to reprogram several times with no change. When I read the radio everything appears correct in the CPS. Using R20.01. Radio Model is T04KLH9SW9AN. Any ideas?

What are the firmware versions and flashcode of this radio?

You sure it's an ASTRO head that you have on it?

Flashcode: 500008-000480-0

Where do I find Firmware version?
Turn the radio on, then hit the HOME button five times (within 10 seconds of first being powered up).

The first screen is the host firmware, the next one is the DSP.

I will try to get that again, but so far I have been unable to get the control head to display it.

Read the radio with CPS. Look at the Radio Information tab. It'll be there, too.

I said READ THE RADIO, not the codeplug from disk. You must read the radio to get the firmware information.

Is this a public safety radio you're attempting to program?

It almost sounds like the radio is expecting a W4 head (knobs instead of rockers, etc.) or it is a re-packaged spectra head in an Astro case. Did you get the control head with the radio, or is it from some other source?

Isn't the HCN1073D is a spectra head, unless someone put the Astro Firmware chip in there?

My apologies, I am at work and not near the radio in question to be able to READ the radio right now. I will have to do that in the next couple of days. Yes, it is a public safety radio.

The control head came with the radio and the model is a W9, so I would think that it would use the W9 control head. The rescue squad got this radio from state surplus.

HCN1073D is an old analog Spectra head, it will not work with Astro Spectra unless you replace the firmware chip
HCN1078_ is the correct Astro Spectra head

OK Thanks. I will have them get with the state surplus guys and get the right control head.

Except, as you now know, the head you have is an A9 head, and not a W9. That design of control head was used on many products - Syntor X9000, Spectra and ASTRO Spectra, ASTRO Spectra Plus and XTL 5000.

They all look the same (to the untrained eye), but are very different and otherwise incompatible unless they are in fact ASTRO heads.

A9 = Analog Spectra Head
W9 = Digital (ASTRO) Spectra Head
