Just looking to see if anybody can give me a basic idea of how a typical repeater site is inter-connected to work with (be integrated into) the DMR-MARC system.

Basic components:

  • TRBO repeater (XPR or MTR)
  • router?
  • c-bridge

Do you need both a router and a c-bridge?

Does the repeater and the c-bridge both plug into the site router? I see the c-bridge has only a single LAN port

Just looking to know how a site is made. I know you need IP connectivity etc. and I know you don't technically need a c-bridge at all site and can go through another location

Just trying to paint a picture in my mind of what plugs into what.

Thanks

At one of my DMR-MARC sites I run a Sprint USB LTE modem into a Cradlepoint router that runs into the XPR8300.

Works like a charm. Nothing crazy special is needed and it works like a charm.

Mine is pretty simple. It is an XPR8400 connected to a wireless router and then to a Verizon hotspot (I wish they'd make these hotspots with an ethernet port).

Thanks guys for your input!

What kind of latency you guys see on your cell APs? I thought it would've been a no-no but I hear more and more guys are doing this.

Cradlepoint and Red Lion both make industrial cellular modems....I have a several dozen site Connect Plus system on cradlepoints on Verizon. Strongly recommend an inexpensive vpn hardware device between the modem and any Mototrbo equipment...works great. FB

What hotspot? I couldn't get one to play nice with an IP camera. It seemed to have neutered port forwarding options.

What kind of data plan are you one? What is the average amount of data used a month?

I have thought quite a bit about doing the same thing but couldn't get any sold answers on the above.

If you're trying to do any sort of intensive data over 3G/4G, you owe it to yourself to look at Cradlepoint, Pepwave, and the like. I've got an MBR1400 in the truck with the Verizon 3G/4G modem "cap" installed and it works flawlessly. Wifi, Wifi-as-WAN (so it connects to the home WiFi when I pull in... great to keep the media library synced up), external antenna ports for all (the Mobile Mark LTM501 is a great complement), real Ethernet ports (why run wireless when you can use a wire?), etc. No, they aren't cheap, but they are a damn sight more reliable than any hotspot that the cell companies have churned out.

Most also have the options for multiple 3G/4G connections (redundancy and load balancing), failover, etc.

What kind of bandwidth usage is involved, both in throughput and MB usage?
