Brand New APX6000 Radios Having Issues

I recently sold (120) APX6000 Portables/ (60) APX6500 Mobiles/ and then (8) APX7500 Consolettes. So far three of the new APX6000 portable radios have gone down in the first week of service. All of them have the same behavior:

1. They come on normally
2. After a period (as little as 10 minutes to as long as 4 hours) the screens go blank and the radio is off.
3. During the shutdown, nothing works, but occasionally only the top screen will display the channel. It does not light or respond to any controls. This is also intermittent, and sometimes both windows are dark and blank.
4. The radio comes back on by itself if left in the on position, ranging from 30 minutes to a bit over an hour.
5. This behavior is “consistently inconsistent” on these radios (meaning it does it constantly, but never at even intervals, regardless of radio) with several different batteries, including batteries that work fine on other radios. I don’t think it is power.
6. When the radio is on, it receives and transmits as normal.

They have been less than a week in service (two failed on the second day). Has anyone else had a similar experience with the APX6000? Customer already sent the radios in but he's reluctant to issue all of them to his officers due to the obvious safety issue this could cause them if one were to drop. We did not program them it was done by the county radio shop. I assumed it was a programming error but I'm only a lousy Sales guy and couldn't tell you what else could cause issues like that in these radio... Thoughts?

You forgot to post the firmware version(s) and the CPS version you're working with.

You're not alone.. I am having this same type of problem so I came here to see if anyone else is having the same issue and it's funny to see this is the very first topic under the stickies.

One of the APX6000 M2.5 radios we recently put into service has been returned because it will randomly change talkgroups (sorta like a duplicated id on the system)and will power down on its own. It will eventually turn on but there doesn't seem to be any consistency on when or why. Changing batteries or turning the knob off and back on doesn't solve the issue either. Leave the radio in the on position long enough and it will power back on with a full battery by itself.
