Hello everyone, I have a couple of CP200d units and their speakers are not working at all. I have attached brand new speakers to the radios, but they still won't put out any sound. Everything else works perfectly and if you put a lapel mic on the unit then you can hear audio just fine. Any help would be appreciated as I do not know what is causing this problem, thanks.

My bet is the accessory jack contacts are stuck routing audio from the internal speaker to the external speaker (radio thinks accessory is connected).

Is there any way to fix this?

If it is in fact the contacts that are stuck. You can clean them with a can of electrical contact cleaner and apply a dielectric grease to keep it from happening again.

Thank you, I will look in to this. It would make sense that the contacts would be stuck because the speaker mics have been plugged into the units for a very long time. Quick question however, how would I go about cleaning the contacts?

Well. The electrical contact cleaner comes in an aerosol can that most often comes with a straw to attach to the spray tip. Insert the straw into the audio Jack and give it a little spritz. It evaporates pretty quickly, but I still wouldn't get to crazy with it. It shouldn't take much. Some people may recommend using compressed air to remove built up dust, but you stand the chance of just embedding any particulates further inside the radio housing. Depending on how much pressure you use. I'm sure there are other options that can be used. But the cleaner will usually do the trick. Unless of course the spring steel used in the contacts has been physically deformed. In which case you'll need to replace the jack.

TEST the cleaner you are planning on using on a portion of the plastic jack that is NOT holding the contacts, first. A lot of the new cleaners will make your plastic turn to a puddle of mush. Use a q-tip, very sparingly. Be advised, the usual failure is NOT dirt but the actual jack detaching from the circuit board from stress. This will require a skilled surface mount tech to repair. If the unit is still under warranty, don't bother, ship it in for free.

I have not seen the circuit board for a CP200d yet. It looks like Motorola has gone back to a through hole Accy jack instead of the surface mount used on the CP200. I would check to see if any of the solder connections are cracked.

I agree, in fact one of the terminals for it looks darker than the rest, either it was hit with a magic marker, or the solder on it has possible gone cold and cracked. I would re-solder all 6 terminals and if the problem still exists, the jack is broken internally.

I tried this, but unfortunately no luck. Guess I am just going to have to swap the radios out because it appears the problem is withing the jack.

I don't remember if it was the SP50 or the P110, but it was quite common to find the jack pin closest to the top outside edge broken and this would cause loss of audio. Touch the soldering iron tip to the pin and see if it can be easily moved around, if so you might be able to remove the jack and solder a small wire to the broken pin.
