CPS Crashing

I'm trying to half the number of FPP zones in my radio as I only really need a few. With a clean generated cpg from scratch my CPS or other will remove FPP from the last just fine. When I have a populated cpg for some reason the software crashes and I've tried this on 3 computers with three different OS' all with the same results. I have no issues rebuilding most of the radio config but there are quite a few channels in the old codeplug and I really do not want to have to completely rebuild from scratch just to remove a few FPP zones.

Does anyone know of a way to cull FPPs without software crash? I tried using the CSV export to just drag a few zones across but it refuses to import.

TIA.

Model number?
Firmware version?
CPS Version?

First off, you are probably not going to have a lot of success doing what you want. Astro25 radios are design with FPP in one flavor. 15 zones, 16 channels, 240 personalities.

Sometimes, if you are very lucky and the Gods smile, you can clone. Drap and drop? No.

An FPP radio will not be happy nor work correctly with personalities or zones removed below 241.

XTS2500 M3 Q
FW12
CPS20.01

This seems to be software specific as in if I've put the channel info in after fpp it gives a runtime error and crashes where if I haven't added channel info it will cooperate.

If I have to leave it 15x16 I will but I'd rather not waste so many personalities when I need more for other things. I only have a small need for FPP (odd rx out of area and odd licensed tx out of area like friends repeaters and 70cm, the sort of stuff that didn't get added last upload). The fpp design is useless for attempting to make stuff vote and that's what I need the extra personalities for.

So if the software will do 8x16 or 4x16 will the radio be happy with that? Since it is in essence an SDR?

I've been able to DnD a prior root level cpg but that copies in the extra unwanted FPP and I'm back at square 1 with the same issue again :(.

Maybe I'm just really lucky, but I've never had a issue with either the radio or CPS on either of my model 3 5Ks, and I only have one FPP zone (with it's 16 personalities) in each. All others are non-fpp conventional. For a time I only had two zones in my UHF, one fpp, and one with work stuff.

I concur... I own 2 XTS5k radios, one K split, one Q, and they are both configured with only 2 FPP zones each. Both radios have around 10 total zones in them including FPP, and have no issues. If it helps, I'm happy to share specs such as flash code and firmware versions.

Well I fluked an import of the frequencies (forgot all it's other info like NACs and tones but kept the names and frequencies at least) so I now have an 8+8 working great (which is handy given I use the rotary for zones since I have 80+ channels in some zones rendering the rotary useless since it's not a 360).

Will test it some more and see how it behaves. The only issues I'm having now are trying to work out what the stun menu option is about for tac and then learning some trunk rx stuff (biggest issue so far there is being unable to fit all the site alias' in the list - not sure how they do it for the NSW GRN and working out why I can't call 1 of the 3 TGs into the zone list). At least I now have all my vote stuff done and still have room to play.

Being at FW12 your results will be problematic. I own 4 XTS5ks and 2 XTS2500s with FPP and I can delete personalities below 241 also, but it usually doesn't work well with customer radios below FW R17.01.01 and anyone doing so should really be using the current R20 firmware.

What do you mean problematic? Is it something that would be noticed upfront? As yet (been running and being used/tested for three odd days) it seems to be behaving well.

I deleted the FPP from the last zone back to Z8 and the software deleted the personalities itself to match. That was with a fresh new CPG rather than a previous though if that's what you are getting at?

Is there any real reason/need to upgrade (or downgrade) from 12 to 20.x in FW? All my ASTRO25 stuff is FW11-12 somewhere and been behaving well (the 5000 I've had since around 06 and it's never really missed a beat (crapped itself out early with FW10 before it went back under warranty but it's fine now and I'm sure its on 11 (maybe 12). I have an issue with justifying and affording the iButtons unless there is a real strong case and I've seen a few grumble about flashzap being a 50:50 gamble.

Your approach has the best chance of success. Some radio/feature set combos are more jittery than others. YMMV. I also bounce up to new firmware after I vet it, but a lot of that has to do with having to deal with customers who want to see what the new features do.

The whole pay-to-flash-firmware model sucks.
