I seem to remember a discussion on this long ago, but haven't been able to find any mention of it with endless searching. Does anyone make an interface that allows passthrough of digital voice between ASTRO25 radios?

A team I am on uses both a P25 trunking talkgroup for wide area communication as well as a P25 simplex frequency for local communication while at an incident location. When arriving at a location a patch is activated between two dedicated radios to maintain situational awareness. The patch is currently being handled by a Midian IS-2.

We are happy with the Midian, and even though double vocoding is taking place it actually works pretty well. Just wondering it if would be possible to improve upon it.

I cable wont do much more than the midian. We tried back to back cables along with different repeater controllers. Our latest uses a KrNida box between our P25 gear. It allowed some audio levels so a better option for my setup.

How about using a DVRS?

It's called a repeater, and if it were as simple as a "digital cable" nobody would trouble themselves with actual repeaters.

That really looks like the only option above what we have.

For curiosity, how is the digital voice actually passed into/out of the radio? I assume it is via the SB9600 bus? Looking at their documentation there isn't a lot of detail but it's implied there is actually a passthrough occurring and not just audio transfer. In comparison, it appears the Pyramid SVR-P250 is just an audio interface like other methods.

Yeah, my bad. "Cable" wasn't the best description, more of an interface with other components involved. I have this nagging feeling I've heard of something like this before, other than a DVRS, but can't find anything. Maybe just wishful dreaming.
