When would a reasonable time be considered, before the XTS series radios are effective discontinued in use because of Phase 2 P25?

It will take years. many systems have only recently become active on P25. There are budgets to concider as well a whole new system and radios costs millions and for a fraction of that encryption can be added to existing P25 systems and radios.

Although technically, the XTS5000 line is already cancelled. Even though many P25 systems have just bought them in the last couple of years, Motorola has already decided to cram the APX line down everyone's throat. The only reason they haven't cancelled the XTS2500's is because of the 900 MHz line and the soliders (DoD) use them as bubble-talkies.

But as Notorola said, there is no reason they NEED to be obsoleted for several years, at least.

One other note worth mentioning. My radio has not been used for a few years now which is only 800 Mhz and they have already gone to 700/800 Mhz. I will need that addressed as well as mine is as old as dirt.
Seems I have too much to do to bring this up to specs. A shame cause it's a great radio and in perfect cosmetic condition. Any suggestions.

XTS5000 was a very popular Radio over all. The feds used then by the thousands as most of DHS, ICE USSS had them in VHF , There are a lot of Statewide systems that used them also in 800 and are still going strong. It might be a while yet...

Phase 2 systems can be programmed to be backwards compatible to default to Phase 1 when a non-phase 2 capable radio affiliates, so with this being possible it could take a very long time until they go totally away.
Of course if Phase 2 is implemented to solve a capacity problem, the utilization of just a single Phase 1 only radio does defeat this purpose so it is the system owners/admins decision whether to accept them or not.

Your radio is capable of 700 as well, will you be using this radio for mission critical work? If so then I would recommend sending it in to a local service center for a firmware upgrade and an alignment. If it is for hobby use there are people here who would more than likely be willing to do it for you as well.

Phase II is far from prolific.. hell, there are still agencies in the US using lowband fercrissakes. I've still got a few MT1000 and Maxtrac radios in service in my fleet, and an MTR2000 that I thank the gods hasn't blown up yet despite being in service 24/7 since it was bought new. P25 phase I isn't going to be obsolete any time soon - there are plenty of systems that are just now being built out that are phase I.

Motorola USUALLY guarantees that some level of support will be available for any discontinued model for 10 years.

That doesn't mean FULL support, necessarily, but there will be at least some parts and acessories availability for 10 years or more.

To this day you can still buy some parts and most accessories for such long-retired models as the Saber series, the Genesis series, (HT600, MT1000, etc),
the MX series, and even the MT500 and HT220 series. In many cases it's limited to remaining stock but if you NEED a new battery for your slimline HT220,
I'm pretty sure you can still get one from Motorola.
