I hope those buttons are not membrane type. They do not last long in the RR world.

A couple of compaines in the past had membrane style buttons and were nothing but trouble. Railroaders also tend to push hard/bang these buttons when thingS do not work right - or even when they work right as half of all the other controls require a bit of force. Feeling a sense of resistance is what you get used to feeling. Pushing on buttons like these will be like hitting a tablet or piece of glass hard all the time...no give, non happy railroaders.

I think it looks cool, but with AAR backing down on NXDN and that all the major carriers have gone with JEM and the other players already, hard market to crack.

I think it looks cool and wouldn't mind picking one up for the house, but I do not think I'd like tapping in that at work all day long.

What is the backend radio?

Can't stand the radios. Its not a Motorola clean cab. There is an audio difference between the ICOM based units and the Kenwood. Both suck, but I think the Kenwood sounds better.

The displays suck too - small and runs together vs the older style with larger numbers and brighter numbers.

Had an engine with this while back, and it was quite nice:

I love how every single Clean Cab radio made copies the Spectra for the front panel layout. You'd think Motorola would take that as a clue that there's still heavy market demand for their products (that and the probably hundreds, if not thousands of Waris portables in rail service) but noooooo...

Actually I think that is (or became) the AAR standard format.

The JEM radio's have a ICOM or Kenwood radio inside of them. I will agree that they are terrible, you know when a crew has an Astro Spectra.
