I scored a UHF 380-470 EF Johnson 5100 the other day and would love to get it up and running. I've been told they do NOT need to affiliate to monitor a 9600 system. I would appear they use a proprietary type of system key. Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

My understanding is that the johnson key will do P25 compliant trunking. Motorola 9600 baud trunking is not the same thing. There is no system locally here for me to check out so all I can do is repeat what I know as a general statement.

I have not seen a johnson system key so I have no information on what it opens etc.

I have not seen it myself, but a good friend is a system admin for a county wide 450 P25 trunking system and he has EFJ's that will monitor the system with no affiliation. The infrastructure is Motorola, most subscribers are also but there are some EFJ, and Kenwood units on the system also. He has tested the Icoms, and they do NOT need a system key of any kind (that was about a year ago).

Is it a 3600 or 9600 baud system? Interesting on the Kenwoods working on it too, there might be another system key to look into :(

It is a 9600 system. They have also tested the Icoms, but they don't require a system key so the admins do not want anyone buying the Icoms.

The EF Johnson system keys are 64 Bit Key Files . And are Made the Same way as the OPT Files Are Made . How Ever you can Enter a Trunked system without the syskey . you can do the Motorola Radios the same way also with out the Key File or Key Dongle . It's not all that Hard . Motorola and EF Johnson will tell you that you need the system Dongle in order for you to get th radio on the target system . But not true if you know what you are doing . There is aways a Backdoor . lol

No doubt the software can be edited up to enable the key field or something similar. Any information on doing this is always of interest. It would still be of interest to see a key for EFJ.

I believe the dummy key comes up as 0001. I had a way to use the codeplug with the dummy key then save it. Open hex editor and change the sys ID in codeplug file then re open with pcc and write to radio.

The dummy key loads up as SID 1234.

Interesting mod medic. using a dummy to cretate the TG info etc and the hex edit the SID in the codeplug. Im not sure if there is a CRC routine in the codeplug I would tend to believe that there is.
