Local rep was in today and gave us a quick demo. He's returning Wednesday next week with an apx radio cable and will run this live.

Interested in comments from people who have and use this. How does it work for you, benefits, drawbacks?

Are you talking about the Sonetics product line for headset and intercom systems? There's many models.

For mobile/apparatus environments I have MR5x00D controllers + WB505R DECT 1.9 wireless, and integrations with APX, XPR, and NX/VM mobiles. The noise cancellation for transmit audio with simultaneous listen-through for the user works slick. Disable AGC on the radio accessory input or set tighter AGC gain ranges so they don't cause excessive gain pumping trying to make up for each other's audio processing.

I have been bugging their product team to come out with a native Bluetooth UHW507 headset model that will play nice with the built-in Bluetooth features available on many manufacturer portable and mobile radios. That means not just Headset Profile (HSP) audio, because that already works - even with regular consumer earpieces and headsets - but also the HID for the PTT activation. For all I know the hardware might already be there, and this is just a firmware update away from implementing PTT functionality.

Yes talking the sonetics 1.9ghz headsets with the portable hub. Sri don't have model numbers in front of me. Allows passthrough audio and radio audio with 5 units on the hub.

I've installed a few sets here and as it is with most departments the staff either loves them or hates them. Two seemingly simple things we had to overcome, #1 getting the staff to plug the headsets back into the chargers, I have no idea why this is such a struggle. #2 A misunderstanding of usable range. The command staff asked not to have the external antenna added for whatever reason so the line folks went to try to use them with some distance from the truck while training and immediately complained that the headsets didn't have enough range, IMO just add the external antenna its trivial. Otherwise once tuned up with some audio adjustments at the radio (APX/NX mobile lines here) they have been awesome.

A 5 pack of different headsets got deployed today. Of course Firecom sends the hub with tx audio gain at max. yikes that didn't sound tooo good at first lol. All the chiefs got some use time on them tonite and they're running these live for at least the next week. I am impressed with the passthrough feature and the headset noise rating. The intercom is crystal clear. Ptt on the radio is near instant. Also like the headsets turning on automatically as soon as unplugged. Almost goofproof. I'll see if I can get some audio from a fireground.

If they could make this pair to a apx bluetooth....

And in terms of durability the only main issue I have with these UHW series is the headband cable conductors break internally, and you get intermittent operation with no indication to the user that it's suddenly shut off (normally, there is a voice prompt anytime the power status changes or if it is about to auto power down).

According to support they see this frequently, and that's why they ask during initial troubleshooting if the issue can be duplicated by moving the headband piece. I just sent a couple back to their shop in Oregon for flat rate repair - not sure if the repaired units are going to have the same failure mode or if this is a materially improved cable or strain relief. They are stored hanging by the strap, not the rear headband (which the cable is shrink wrapped to - these are under helmet models) in the apparatus in their approved NFPA 1901 hanging hook so there should be no undue stresses.

Yeah no firm response about the APX Bluetooth integration (including PTT) other than they're working on it, but I would also want to see it implemented for Moto XPR, Viking and Harris subscriber radios so that I can actually say yes this will work with every radio that offers internal BT. Currently, the audio will work both ways, but you have to push the portable's own PTT button to transmit, or have a secondary BT fob paired to the radio, or be using VOX (which is not suitable for most fire applications, they want manual PTT).

Tnx much for the info on these! We're trying both the narrow band and the wide band versions of the headsets. The narrow seems to work much nicer than the wide with helmets. It hits the ratchet is all we've seen so far.

Today they did a live burn exercise with multiple companies rolling through. Attached is a recording of what the Firecom sounds like INSIDE the headset.

Download and change the file extension from .txt to .m4a since the site won't accept an audio file.

We install them the most in firetrucks and it's been really good for us. Not a lot of issues when installed correctly. I'm a firecom fan and support is great also.
