OK I have to ask, your CO's really run around with those at a scene? We buy the interface for our Engineers to plug in at the pump panels, its usually the first thing they throw away. Honestly after 20 plus years of being on apparatus I have never saw someone wearing a headset outside a rig.

I like the Firecomm stuff. goes together nicely, upgrading older apparatus to new firecomm has been easy. so is there customer support. about 1/3 the fleet has firecom headsets (for intercom and talking on the radio inside the cab). The rest is Sigtronics, cheap not so cheap stuff.

CAL FIRE is switching to David Clark. Dozer transports have wireless headsets. looks cool I have never used them so IDK.
Yes that is the plan I believe along with new blue card training.

Talking about the UHW500 series here,
Have you tried "Radio PTT" mode rather than "Radio VOX" mode, which is the default?

I'm not within range of any apparatus at the moment to confirm this behaviour with the wireless DECT base, but I believe that makes the Right earcup Round button Radio PTT and the Left earcup Square button Intercom PTT. You can also change this in configuration mode by the voice prompts.

Friday was a nutso day but I did get these unpacked and several setup on a hub. I tested these and they do not indeed work currently with split ptt for intercom and radio. They do work only in a wired/tethered config where there is a radio plugged into the cord directly. There doesn't currently exist a command to open a DECT wireless path for intercom only. I worked with Darrell at Sonetics and we were able to ascertain this fairly easily. This IS being put in as a feature upgrade.

One thing I don't like is what they call stuff in the configurator. They also don't tell you the split ptt only works in tethered mode. Thats kinda dumb. I could see more people using that than live mic. All of the stuff in the configurator program can be accessed from the headset also via button combination presses...

Thanks for the tip though at least I dug into why it doesn't work.

Whizzed this together this morning as a chief was really wanting this for tomorrow and Thursday for funeral. Heres some pics of wiring the mini xlr connector and new cord in. Works like a champ. Love the volume control on the earcup also.

This is almost an identical setup to the david clark headsets done previously. It works like a champ!

Today I had two ultimate "projects" in between shift changes at PD headquarters.

The first was to finish the Firecom deployment, the first box was deployed Monday into one of the command cars.

The second was to clean up some of my office since A. Either someone was going to call the bomb squad soon or B. Someone was going to call Fire Prevention and report the 7 outlet strips I had plugged in my office or C. Someone was going to call 911 reporting fire showing in the back of the dispatch center due to said outlet strips lmao

I did "semi" finish the Firecom deployment but unfortunately it was with the demo hub not the new one they sent. It had no ptt to the radio when it was hooked up. Changed the cord still nada. Opened the demo unit which has a hacked up hub unit in it and plugged that in same cables and works fine. Plug the new unit back in no ptt. Ok bad hub goes in salesmens demo and I put the second case into service in the other command car. The hub isn't really hacked up but it looks like an original type prototype style setup without the nice covers. I messaged the salesman to send a new hub and we'd swap it out and readjust later.

They work. Seems to be mixed feelings from some chiefs about the 100% intercom. Hopefully firecom does the feature upgrade and we can address this later.

The office...It's better but is going to need a week or so.
