Hi folks!

I used to think it was possible to have both FPP and trunking in an Astro25 radio provided it is upgraded to Host R17.00.01 or something like that or newer. I personally own an XTS2500 and XTS4000 VHF radios that have both options enabled (they were flashed with a genuine Moto software which I can't name here ;) so they aren't some hack-job from China).
The CPS recognizes both Trunking and FPP in both radios.

FPP works fine in them. Hovewer I haven't come across the trunking programming in them yet. Today I tred to program these radios with a trunking system. Codeplug accepts Trunking System and Trunking Personality, but when it comes to programming a trunked channel in the Zone Channel Assignment the CPS won't let me do it. I can neither select nor manually type Trk instead of Cnv in the channel type field. As I reach it with a cursor it reverts to an arrow with a spectacles indicating that this field is view-only.

What's the deal? My XTS2500 and XTS4000 are both running R20.00.05 firmware and I use CPS R20.01.00. Am I missing something? Is there a way to have both trunking and FPP in an XTS radio (I herd it was possible in CPS 9 or earlier, not sure about the firmware)

Thanks in advance!

The deal is, you can't have trunking and FPP in the same radio, with modern firmware.

You'll have to revert back to R09 if you want trunking and FPP.

Is it necessary to have R09 FW as well as use R09 CPS? If I already have R20.00.05, do I need to downgrade it?

Yes, upgrading either F/W or CPS past 9 makes the FPP and/or trunking not work properly. F/W 10 and later requires Q53 along with Q52 for FPP to function. CPS 10 and later will not allow you to turn on "Trunking" in the zone screen if you have FPP turned on, even with a Q52-only radio with later firmware (don't ask!). You will need to use the CPS9 downgrade tool.

If your radio is a Q52 only FPP setup, and has a R09 codeplug with firmware above R09, when you try to FPP it, it will basically puke on you and reset.
