SYMPTOM:
MOTOTRBO 2.5 Wi-Fi capable subscriber units out of the box show a potential invalid Wi-Fi Mac Address when read via CPS.

MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
All MOTOTRBO 2.5 subscriber units that are Wi-Fi capable with radio firmware version R02.50.04 and R02.50.05. that are built before March 11, 2016 (date code 6116).

PROBLEM CAUSE:
An issue in the factory programming of the subscriber units.

Apparently the fix is to reprogram the radio. -The Factory Fresh radio that should have had that feature enabled already and working.

Repeat after me: Quality Control!! :bang:

Sadly, many companies anymore have the "Fix It in a software patch" mentality (in this case a codeplug push).

Back when screw-ups in embedded hardware meant getting $hit-canned due to potentially millions of dollars in labor and/or hardware swapping, oddly enough everybody seemed to be WAY more thorough in vetting everything! :(

There's also the now-common corporate mentality of : Never hearing anything at all from management unless you've done something wrong... but I won't open that can of worms.

Not much different than the bad MAC addresses sent out in the first run of XPR8300 repeater connector boards. :bang:

I'm fighting a similar but potentially different problem with the XPR-7550e subscribers. After cloning a codeplug from one XPR-7550e to another, the CPS software appears to have cloned the MAC address of the original unit into the destination. They both DHCP with the same MAC address now (and get the same IP address as a result). Oddly enough the MAC address of both units appear correctly in the CPS and also in the menu on the radio.

Tech support has asked me to keep cloning radios and document the results. No thanks, I have done enough pre-Alpha release code testing on Motorola products today.

Cheers,
SD.
