Has anyone used HMN1090 mic with XPR4550 or XPR5550?

This is the "traditional" Moto mic (the small one), with a connector that looks like it works with the XPRs. Has anyone used this as a replacement for the "CB-style" mic supplied with the radios?

It's listed as compatible with XTLs.

Yes, never had any problem using them with XPR4350s, analog or digital. I definitely prefer the heftier potato mics over the TRBO specific ones. There shouldn't be any reason why they wouldn't work with the other models.

I use a 1090C with my 5550. Works like a charm! There is an older thread about audio quality that discusses the various mic options.

I use the XTL mike on my XPR, & the XPR mike on my XTL. People say my XTL sounds better in digital when using the XPR mike. And the 2 programmable side buttons on the black XPR mike do work on the XTL. GARY

Hi,
I've used my TMN1000A mike (a 1960 model desk mike), it's the model in my avatar and connected to the backside connector.
Connecting two different era's and sound great. Still one of the best M mikes, and when you shout into the mike,
it stand still on the desk instead beneath :D:D

Something to keep in mind about the HMN1090 mic, guys:

- As you know, it was designed for the XTL. It's optimized for the IMBE codec's frequency response/codebook. This goes back to the Spectra days, when the HMN1052A was determined to sound like ass on P25, so Moto reworked the frequency response and released the HMN1080A.

DMR uses the AMBE+2 codec. I would imagine there are many things in common between IMBE/AMBE+2, but there may be differences/enhancements between the DMR GCAI mic and the HMN1090 XTL mic.

Then again, if someone can confirm the HMN1090 is used/sold/marketed with the APX mobiles, it might give confirmation it would work/sound just fine on DMR as the APX mobile supports P25 Phase II, which also uses the AMBE+2 codec.

Just throwing it out there.

Motorola does list it as compatible with the XTL and APX lines: HMN1090 - Motorola Solutions Every APX7500 I've installed (only a few dozen so far) came with one. That being said, I think I'll experiment with one some more on my 5550 to compare it to the TRBO-specific keypad mic on our Cap + system.
