Hi all,

I have an XTS 2500 Model 2 UHF Range 2. I have been having issues with screen flickering on and off over the past few months. So I ordered an LCD, swapped it and it worked great for a week or so. Then it stopped working. SO my next thought was to just order an entire new case with screen, keypad, and all that in the housing already and swap it and be done with it. I took a 1500 model 1.5 apart and swapped the housings just to test my theory and it worked fine no prob, so I ordered a new housing.

Now when I swapped back my original housing for some reason the radio won't power on, no self test tone. When I turn it on, the LED indicator is solid green, and the display and keypad blacklight is on. I have no idea what this means, the only things the service manual say is blinking green, solid red, and blinking red.

Any ideas guys? any and all input would be appreciated.

Regards,
Brian

Make sure everything is seated properly. Hopefully you didn't damage anything. The covers on the flex holders are good for breaking and not holding the flex properly. Hopefully the radio didn't take a static hit or anything like that.

What is the history of this radio? Was it a China special? If so, I have seen units with microfractures of the main PCB. They cause this type of intermittent operation.

update: I was able to re- seat the flex and use the new case that I ordered. Turns out the screen issue was part of my problem. The radio powers on however i get a funny screen that I have never seen before.

FlashZip Bootloader
version R01.04.20
Intel W18-B 4MB
Invalid Firmware
RS-232 113.2 kbps
Ready to Download

Anyone know what this mean or how to fix it?

You have a 4MB radio, and some jackass made it a _BN model number. Someone went to perform a firmware upgrade and your radio bricked, as 8MB firmware will not fit in a 4MB radio.

I can fix your radio remotely. I will email you further particulars.
