I have a few PD782's and purchased the full encrypt licenses for them.

I had a question regarding the random key encrypt feature.

Does this just involve setting a random list of AES keys in CPS and writing them to the radios then just checking the random key Enc box?

How does the radio sync the key changes? Is it just read by the Key ID bit so the other radios know which Enc key to use?

I have to keep two 40 bit RC4 keys in my key list to operate with MotoTRBO radios.

Currently we upgraded two TGs to AES encryption.

I was just curious if anyone tried the random key encrypt feature and how it worked out?

And was it ever confirmed if Hytera DMRA AES 256 will work with MotoTRBO AES 256?

Thanks

Can't answer most of your questions, but I can confirm Motorola AES works with your Hytera AES. Motos need R02.40.xx for AES standard compatibility.

What did the full encrypt feature cost you?

We paid a Hytera dealer $270 a radio for the full encrypt licenses and he provided us with the latest firmware too.

The licenses took two days to get because apparently Hytera issues them from overseas. But the upgrade process is quick and easy.

We originally used XPR 6550's. I entertained the thought of buying XPR 7550's but found a great deal on some new PD782's.

Very happy with the 782's, eventually we'll use all Hytera.

Thanks for the info! I too use a 782... When Hytera added compatibility with Motorolas Enhanced Privacy I sold my 6550.

Just wait until they start falling apart. Batteries going dead after 9 months, batteries detaching from the radios, rear housings on the mobile mics just falling off, no support on firmware issues, etc, etc. Nice radio with cool features, but support is lacking. And then the attitudes when you call up and say your having a problem they act like it the first time they are hearing about it and why are you bothering them. We had a 200+ radio fleet of 782's ND just shy of two years we had enough and washed the fleet and went back to moto after the release of the 3500 series. Haven't looked back.

Interesting - did you have first run radios? We have more than 150 out in operation among customers and rental radios (pd 6xx and 78x series), including customers who use them 24/7 around salt water on fishing trawlers and pilot services etc and hytera stands up to the salt better than motorola radios. Excluding these salt water users we have almost one for one issues rate between vendors (terminals) and returns are few and far between in the last three years.

FMROB. I am sorry you are not happy with these radios. Many of the guys here are using the Hytera PD782, & it's a very rugged radio. Hytera, the actual importer is only 30 minutes south of me, & a friend works there, so the locals have ZERO problems with customer service. Many of the guys who are in the 2-way business, & are Moto fanatics own at least one PD782 for use in the field, where the FPP function is very useful. Until I got mine [Harris badged PD782 from FORTS] I used to badmouth them, but now after owning one since July, I can honestly admit if I was driving around town in a cement mixer, I would rather be listening to the 782 than my XPR7550. Receive audio is so much louder on the 782. Yes, my 7550 is easier to read the display for my tired eyes, but each radio has it's advantages. Programming is less tedious with the Hytera. I want to wish a happy turkey day to all, but I know my fellow Canadians have already celebrated it. GARY
