Hi all,

Was looking at the idea of a smaller scale indoor positioning system using Mototrbo radios and iBeacons.

I know TRBOnet and Smart PTT have some iBeacon server software, but wondered if anyone else has tried something else ?

As it is a small scale "nice to have but not essential" system the customer is on a limited budget.

thanks in advance

John

I've installed a hermesTRX system for one customer and it was difficult to get running at first but their tech support was friendly and helpful (although they were only available during business hours in Germany which meant a 6 hour difference for me). Ended up having a number of software/firmware issues that took them a while to figure out but they eventually did, on top of some inadequate documentation. Hopefully this has all been resolved in the year since I worked on it. The customer is pleased and has had only minor issues that ended up being networking problems and not hermes faults/errors.

John,

While they first talked about the new features at the EMEA ADP meeting last September, many of the specific have been under wraps till very recently.

We use the APRS protocol for GPS data to things like Depiction and Google Maps, but have not yet decided how we will do iBecon as the complexity is as much in mapping the various iBeacon locations and an indoor graphic to display them and the various radios on, as it is in the logic to get and parse the data fro the radio, this is even more so when you have already been working with the LRRP data streams from that radios.

By the way at CPE this year Neoterra had a nice R&D version of a beacon they were developing. Not sure if it's seen day light yet.

s it is a small scale "nice to have but not essential" system the customer is on a limited budget.

I suspect the budget will be as much in the sourcing placing and documenting / mapping the actual beacons as the logic to get the data and triangulate a radio to determine it's indoor position.
