Looking forward to buy an ASTRO25 radio

I am planning to leave behind the old 1st generation Astro units and get a modern ASTRO25 mobile radio. Astro Spectra Plus or an XTL5000. I haven't decided yet. Since it is using the same CPS and firmware, it is almost the same.

I am not familiar (yet) with the FlashPort options of the ASTRO25 series. I don't know what Flashcode to look for, if I would like to use the following Features:

- Conventional Systems operation
- ASTRO IMBE digital voice operation
- Enhanced Digital ID Display
- 12.5 kHz FCC Mandate (i don't really know what this stands for)
- user definable Soft-ID
- APCO Packet Data

Any other options needed to get the radio working using PPP communication from radio-to-radio (what I was not able to achieve with the old Astro sets)?

Have you tried Akardam's encoder http://www.akardam.net/moto/tools/encode4.pl ? I got 500401-001000-2 for the options you listed (except for Soft ID) on the XTL5000.

I'm not familiar with PPP communication, so I can't help you there.

You don't want FCC 12.5 KHz mandate. That'll lock your programming down to narrowband channels.

User-definable Soft-ID is not an option in the ASTRO25 Mobile platform, unfortunately.
